lichen planus/sclerosus--HELP!

To make a REALLY long story short: I've seen several doctors over the past 2 years for chronic irritation/burning and heavy yellow discharge. I've tested negative for all infections (regular vaginal infections and STD's), but I've been treated for numerous infections just in case. I've tried about every natural remedy under the sun, I've tried boric acid, and I've tried the anti-candida diet...nothing helped one bit. After a doctor recently found VIN1 after doing a biopsy, she prescribed a corticosteroid cream to treat what she considered a "dermatological" condition (though she never provided a name for it).

Now, the latest doctor I've been seeing has agreed with the dermatological diagnosis, and he told me he thinks it could be lichen sclerosus--although, I feel it's probably lichen planus because sclerosus doesn't involve the discharge and planus does.

I'm being referred to a specialist but the earliest I can get in is 4 months from now, so I'm DESPERATE for answers. So, this question is for anyone who may have dealt with this nightmare before.

First of all--I used the corticosteroid for 2-3 weeks the first go-around. I felt it *may* have been helping, but I still felt miserable a lot of the, I stopped. A few weeks after I stopped, (TMI warning!) my discharge began to come out in huge globs; I've read that stopping the steroid cream cold-turkey with either of the lichens can be bad for the condition, so I'm wondering if this is related? Anyway, I decided a week ago to give the steroid cream another far, I've noticed it provides VERY temporary relief of the irritation (for a few hours after application), but as the day wears on the irritation comes back. It's also done nothing for the discharge.

Does anyone know if it can take awhile (as in, weeks or months) for the steroid cream to make a significant impact on symptom relief for lichen planus or sclerosus? Does anyone with either of these conditions have any insight they can offer me? I've dealt with this for so long and I'm nearly in tears tonight for the millionth time over it...I'm at a loss and I have no clue what to do. Any info anyone has to offer is incredibly appreciated!!!

Re: lichen planus/sclerosus--HELP!

We think my 5 year old grandbaby has lichen sclerosus too. She shows all the symptoms of it. She was seen by a gyno last week-has a biopsy scheduled for next week. My daughter and I are freaking out and worried about the baby. The Dr. said she's almost sure it is ls-biopsy will provide answers-what can we expect?? Is there anyone else out there who has a child diagnoised with ls? Please give us some help. Thanks for any help any one can provide. We are very worried.
