Very Bad Period Pain

The past few months, something really strange (at least to me) has been happening while I have my period. On either the third or fourth day of my period, all of a sudden, out of the blue, I get excrusiating (sp?) very bad pain under the stomach area (all the way across, not just one side). It just comes on without any warning, and it's bad pain that literally makes me cry, not like regular cramps. This pain lasts anywhere from 15-30 minutes, then it just disappears as quick as it started. I never have the pain again, until the third or fourth day of my next period, then it's the same thing. It seems that this happens every other month or so. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong, or has anyone else experienced this? I am going to call my gyn. next week.

Re: Very Bad Period Pain

I have also struggled with excruciating pain on 3ird or 4th day after starting my period.
Not to be gross, but have you noticed a change in your menstrual flow at that time?
I have. Usually within the next few hours after the pain I pass an unusully large clot(sorry) and then my period returns to normal and is usually finished within the next two days. I have never had that checked out because it seems "normal" for me but I think you are wise to talk to your Physician about it.
Good Luck!

Re: Very Bad Period Pain

I guess if you are passing large clots, the pain you feel could be your cervix dilating. This happened to me several years ago, and my doctor thought that's what it was. If you've ever had your cervix dilated for a gynecological procedure, you know that it can be quite uncomfortable. Still, I would contact your doctor just to be safe.

Re: Very Bad Period Pain

I had those same symptoms for almost five years, and three days ago I just found out I had endometriosis. You should really talk to your doctor about it before it gets worse, because you never know what it could be.

Re: Very Bad Period Pain

Dreamin, no, I didn't pass any large clots, my period had been light before the awful pain hit, and then afterwards, it was heavier, but nothing out of the ordinary as far as flow. I just find it strange, how I could have horrible, horrible pain on the fourth day of my period for only 15-20 minutes, then it just disappears. I haven't called the dr. yet, but will make sure to make an appointment to go before next month.
