Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

Mine had died down for a bit but has now all come back full on...

It's almost impossible to go out for a long period of time because of the irritation! I am now 100% certain there is a link between the white discharge, the burning and the itchiness. They had all subsided recently and have now all come back together. Front and back. I also keep getting little blocked gland/spots round the edge of my vulva. Back end hurts too, it burns to pass both number 1s and 2s! When it all came back I took another tablet to kill yeast + used canesten cream all over. If anything it has got worse. But it all points to a yeast infection now, I've found a bit of white build up under the vulva and there is discharge coming from inside the vagina. But NOTHING will treat it!! And all my tests came bak neg too :/ So now I just don't even know what to think.

Hi what tests have been done? Was a Candida antibody titre done?

Maybe there is an allergy to what is being taken in?

My tests have been for any sort of bacterial infection and yeast, inside the vagina and also a skin swab was taken. Everything has come back negative, twice over. :-( No allergy testing been done...

Hi some Candida tests with cultures and swabs are useless because the candida does not stay alive long out of the body this is why a blood titre may be needed instead.

I just can't understand why it won't respond to treatement anyway. My next attempt is to explore food allergies because it always gets worse after I have been out for dinner or had a big meal.

Hi OK yes that is a good idea in my opinion many times people are allergic to food additives such as MSG and they usually get headaches, perhaps others have other types of allergies such as skin problems. I would keep a log of foods eaten and when there is trouble.

    Griz-
I was wondering how you were doing. I haven't heard from you or Sweatpea or any of the others in a while. I was hoping maybe you were doing better and we'd get a positive post here for a change.
Sorry to hear instead that it all has come back for you. If it makes you feel any better, you aren't suffering alone. I am still dealing myself and slowly, but surely losing my mind again in the process. Still waiting to see the specialist and trying to guess at causes of the symptoms in the meantime.
I think I am going to start watching what I eat a little better, too, and writing all of that down. I had been keeping a journal of symptoms, but I don't have anything to correlate them to. It's just irritation, redness, burning and discharge of some sort EVERY DAY!

I am going to the regular doctor today to discuss some other possibilities and maybe get a regular blood work up... and some xanax! This is so mentally and physically draining. Please stay in touch and let us know if you come up with anything. I will do the same...

Hi Grizabella most medicines are an extra burden for the body to handle. It is a tax on the system to detoxify it through liver and kidneys producing more wear on them. The less the system has the better in my opinion. A naturopath might have some nice herbal things to try.

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

    Hi Ladies,

Sorry Ive been somewhat MIA, I have been posting on my thread on CV, yeast, Lacto....I am still suffering and taking it day by day....I see my specialist again next week. She said this time she is going to have another Vaginitis specialist look at me. I guess the only good news is that after reading about a lubricant that is helping Mamacitas (a woman on here) I decided to try it. It's called "Pre-Seed" you can get it at CVS. It is really for women who are trying to get pregnant but I think it is making us feel better because it is very alkaline so if we really do have Cytolytic Vaginosis, then this could potentially cure us. So far Ive been using the applicators nightly for a week, and I feel some relief so I want to continue to use them, in hopes I will continue to feel better. I dont know how long I should use them though. Check the CV, Yeast, Lacto. thread as well. I will be sure to keep you all posted. Stay strong.

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

Hi everyone, thanks for all getting back. I will try and post more often, I know how important it is to keep in touch with this sort of thing where we are all suffering.

I went to yet another doctor two days ago (my 6th now?) and he told me it'd be worth trying the amitriptyline anti-deppressant that I mentioned earlier in the thread, which I was prescribed but chose not to take. He said it may even help with the discharge (I just can't see how if it's a nerve blocker though!!) I am holding back with this for a while. I also mentioned earlier in the thread that I have a large cervical ectropion and that one of my doctors said I may need to get it sorted out whilst my gyno said they are common and normal and nothing to be worried about. The doctor I saw 2 days ago said that this could be part of my problem, and that the excess discharge might be a result of that and that my body just isn't responding to the excess discharge very well. He said he doesn't think it can be food allergy related, it is possible but highly unlikely. He told me to make another appointment with my gyno, and I have an appointment on Wednesday so I'll let you all know how it goes. She rubbishes any problem to do with my cervix though so this could be a difficult one.

One thing is for certain, I am almost 100% certain that there is a link between the discharge and the irritation. As I said before, I had quite a good February where it was all quite mild, irritation very low level as was the discharge. When it all came back badly the discharge increased massively like it was before as did the irritation and burning. Not sure how it's irritating my back end though, unless it kind of falls that way? I don't really want to think about it...

The worst thing about all this is the day to day suffering. If I go out anywhere I can feel this itchy, irritated feeling all day and end up cutting any activites short. Exercise is a no go. I'm looking forward to the summer so much, I am going to a festival like I did last year but if I have this problem still then I may just end up cancelling the ticket because it's going to be hellish.

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

Griz- Glad that you posted your last update. It is nice to hear from others when it feels like most of the time we are suffering alone in all this.
I am curious to see how the amitriptyline works for your symptoms if you decide to take it. I had been prescribed that many years ago as a teenager when I was dealing with ulcers and upper GI spasms. It made me very tired and groggy, but I seem to be extra sensitive to those types of meds.
My last doctors appointment did not go very well either. I saw what was now my 5th different doctor in 10 trips to offices. This was a GP, but I was hoping for a different perspective and perhaps to look at things from a more basic level. I thought maybe I could have been missing something that could be causing these vaginal issues. Instead of offering any suggestions, my doctor was very rude and basically laughed at the fact that I have been to so many doctors, taken so many meds, and still thought something was wrong with me. Everyone seems to think I am just crazy. I wish the doubters could just deal with this for ONE DAY! Then maybe it wouldn't be so amusing and they would understand the need to finally find out what's wrong.
In any case, after an exam and much poking and prodding by her and her NP who was more familiar with women's health issues, I was prescribed two pills of antibiotics to take once. (not sure why this was given since I have taken every other antibiotic already) And then I as given Atarax for secondary symptoms. I had been having some muscle twinges and tingling. (not sure if that was related or just from stress) I think she prescribed the meds to help more with the anxiety since she said this issues was "comsuming my life." It did relax me some and actually helped relieve some of the irritation and I don't have as much discharge right now. However, I don't know that the medicine is doing that or it's because I just ended my period and the cycle isn't that bad right now. Problem with the pills again is that it they are very strong for me and make me feel very groggy and tired. I may only feel some relief from the symptoms because I am so out of it and don't feel much of anything!
I can relate to the day to day suffering Griz. That really is the worst part in all of this. I really hope that we all feel better soon. I feel like I am missing out on so much life going on around me and with summer coming like you said, it will only get more depressing.

The doctor laughed it off? That is shocking behaviour! I would have made a complaint! How is the medicine working for you now? Still some relief? Antibiotics is something that I haven't actually tried - it has never been suggested.

I just got back from the gyno and there's not much to report other than she has referred me to have a colposcopy to check any abnormalities on the cervix and in the vagina. It's a step forward at least.

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

Sounds like a positive step Griz. Getting the colposcopy done can rule out some other things I am assuming. I am getting so tired in all this, but forward is the only way we can go at this point.
The doctor I saw was very unprofessional. She did seem to take a different tone after I almost had a breakdown in her office. I have to go back to her tomorrow for the results of my culture and blood work. I am prepared to give her a piece of my mind if she is as dismissive as last time.
As for the meds, not really doing much. The groggy feeling has gone for the most part. I still feel tired, but I am also anxious and not having any relief now.
One thing the NP at the office did mention in passing was vulvodynia. I started looking into that and now I am even more scared. It seems to fit most of the symptoms, especially the burning and constant irritation. What worries me is the lack of knowledge about it and fact that there is no cure.
Does anyone know about or have looked into the possibilities of vulvodynia?

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

At times I feel like I'm loosing my mind but I'm trying to hold it together. I've even been thinking of trying counseling because it has almost been 2 years of this nightmare and it is really taking a toll on me. Anyway, I made appts. all week next week to see local GYNS. Even though they are not all specialists, I thought I might as well see them while I'm home and get a variety of opinions. Who knows, maybe someone could help. And correction, my appt. with Dr. Stewart is actually on March 22nd so I am patiently waiting. Best wishes.

Answersplz, in terms of vulvodynia, as far as I know it could be a possibility for all of us according to studies because there are different forms that cause different symptoms (pain, itch, burn etc.). They say that the exact cause and cure is unknown but they believe that the cause usually has something to do with the nerves. Actually, Dr. Stewart said I may have vulvodynia at first which is why I was on Anticonvulsants which didnt help at all. I believe I dont have it. It most definitely doesnt feel like a "nerve" issue. Anyway, its worth a try to look into nonetheless.

Re: Burning vagina, NO infection, NO yeast but lots of discharge, please help!!

    Sweetpea-
Vulvodynia sounds to me like something of a black hole that everything unexplainable is swept into. If there is no known cause or no known cure, it's almost pointless to get a diagnosis anyway. They will just continue testing drugs on you until you get some sort of relief which may or may not be from the drugs. But I am not sure if I should believe if I should give up and chalk my symptoms up to that or not. I have only been suffering for a fraction of the time as you (just over 4 months) but I know that it has been way too long! Sooner or later I will start believing everyone when they tell me I am crazy.

I wish you luck with your appointments while you are home. Let us know how you fare. Thoughts and prayers are with you!
