anesthesia for colposcopy?

Hi all. I got word from my doc a couple of weeks ago saying I tested positive for HPV and they found low-grade squamous intraepitheleal lesions (ISIL) on my cervix from my pap. Now they want to do a colposcopy. The thing is, while I'm fine with regular paps, I have a history of vaginismus, or involuntary muscle spasms, that made it (pre-physical therapy for my pelvic floor muscles) difficult to do any type of test down there. I'm fine now, but I'm freaking out about the procedure. My doc has prescribed me one 5mg tablet of Valium to take an hour before, but I'm not sure that's going to help enough for me to relax long enough while they're in there. So I'm thinking of asking for twilight sedation. Has anyone else asked about this? Were you turned down?
