Why do I urinate so often before my menstruation?

I read online many causes that it's because of water retention or that the the uterus or whatever is expanding because of the period causing the bladder to urinate and the other reason I read is progesterone acts like a diuretic causing it. But what's the real reason? Anyone know?

How can i make myself not urinate so often before my period comes? Change of diet, maybe? Salt intake? Just yesterday I peed at least 15 times could have been more loss count within a 2-3 hour period it's way too often even though this always happens to me. And I know it's not diabetes or anything this always happens before menstruation but I'm tired of it. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Why do I urinate so often before my menstruation?

Hi, it is normal for female's urinate a lot before thier periods. Frequent urination can be one of symptom of Premenstrual Syndrome such as PMS. Increased urinary frequency by the increase of body fluids such as blood and other fluids. Fluid retention is one of the most common symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome. So it is normal to have more desire to urinate just before menstruation. When the uterus enlarges it can put pressure on the bladder making you feel like you need to pee more. Some women also have water retention and bloating before their periods starts meaning they will pee a greater amount whilst menstruating. The main hormone in the second half of a female's cycle is progesterone. One of progesterone’s jobs is to retain water so that if the female become pregnant she will be ready to maintain a placenta too. When she doesn't turn out to be pregnant and the hormone levels drop there’s a lot of extra fluid to get rid of. As a result the female will pee more often. Hope this helps
