Ladies - listen up!
If you are like me, I recently had an abnormal pap and subsequent colposcopy and biopsies (which didn't hurt at all - just uncomfortable) - now need either Leep or cone biopsy. I have many questions, one being why don't doctors discuss in more detail what factors lead up to this stressful event in our lives. Even after all of these tests, diagnoses, and subsequent treatment, not once was the word HPV mentioned (the very disease that causes this) nor was I tested for HPV and most importantly, why don't doctors discuss ways that you as a woman can help prevent future flare-ups of HPV which can ultimately lead to cervical cancer. All we hear about is get annual pap tests and catch it early - the truth is once you have HPV you always have it but you can control future flareups with simple behavioral changes like diet, exercixe, smoking, stress, sex, etc. Just sayin.....I am 60 years old and have been diagnosed twice with abnormal paps, one was treated and now another going to be treated, not once was HPV discussed and the risks involved. anyone out there agree?

Re: Ladies - listen up!
The current pap smear ( a wet prep) tests for HPV with abnormal paps so you have been tested for it. They just didn't tell you. It's been that way for a number of years so perhaps they assume you know. I find a lot of doctors assume we know things if we don't ask.

Re: Ladies - listen up!
I couldn't agree more - Even when I asked no one owned up to having already tested for it. I don't think you can ask too many questions - somehow women have to be more empowered to take control of things - knowledge is power. The doctor and nurses I'm sure find me most annoying. Thanks for the info.
