: : Ive been diagnosed with barretts esophogus..what can i do that will alter cellular tissue change now...

: Hi Vickie, I too have been diagnosed with
: barretts esophogus. I was diagnosed about two years ago. I go for a yearly endoscopy to see
: how the condition is, and I am taking
: prevacid once a day to keep from getting any heartburn.
: When you say, "what can i do that will alter cellular tissue", are you asking what will cure the barretts condition? As far as I know, the damage is not reversible. The only thing which I was told by my doctor was to take the prevacid to prevent further damage, and also to go for a yearly checkup (endoscopy) to see how the esophogus looks. Also, to watch what you eat to prevent acid reflux. I'm due for another checkup next month.

: Has your doctor suggested anything else other then what my doctor said?

This is my first time to put in a message. My husband has recently been diagnosed with Barretts esophagus. They are very suspicious of esophageal cancer and want to do an operation where they remove the esophagus and part of the stomach. Mu husband says no one has proven he has cancer (he is supposed to do a deep biopsy and a cat scan and other procedures but he's not done anything at this point. I understand he's in denial and needs time to wrap his mind around this, but I am scared and wondering how long do we wait?
