: after having carpal tunnel surgery last march,i had burningpain in the pinky side of my hand, and sensitivity to cold water, i also had 6 weeks of phys. ther. to no avail, now i'm seeing a hand specialist and he gave me a cortozone shot in both wrists, i hd some relief for about a week, but now i'm in pain again, anyone with a answer about cortozone treatment and it's dangers please respond

I had carpal tunnel surgery in October of 98 and have had serveral problems since, extreme pain in the hand, loss of the range of motion in my wrist, bruising (still) at the surgery site, burning pain and pain for reletively no reason at all, sometimes just from the wind blowing on my arm. Last month I was finally diagnosed with RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) which is apparently quite common following carpal tunnel, which I did not know, nor was every mentioned anywhere I sought help for the carpal tunnel. Perhaps you could ask your physician if this is possible in your case. Sometimes the symptoms include mottling of the skin, sweating of the extremety, brittle or rapid growth of the fingernails of the affected limb, burning or deep aching pain, and pain pain pain.... I had to see a pain management doctor who noticed a "shininess of my fingertips" who finally made the diagnosis. Hope you don't have this condition, but it is worthwhile to find out because the earlier it is treated the better. And it is directly related to carpal tunnel, which is something that you only find out after you get it.
