In Reply to: Neocate ? How will I feed my son, next week? posted by Lisa on November 07, 2000 at 16:06:35:

: I've read al of your posts on Neocate formula.
: I have identical twin boys born two months premature on 7-10-00.
: One is normal, the other would be dead without Neocate.
: I went to Eckerds today, to pick up our latest box of four cans, expecting
: to pay the $101.00 for them. I just stood there and cried when they said,
: Sorry, it is now $50 pe rcan, and $200 per case.
: They doubled the price.
: I can only pay for it on my JC Penny card, it is now maxed.
: This is about $800 per month just for the one baby.
: We make Just $1,000.00 a year over the poverty line and do not qualify for WIC, or ANY asistance.
: Our insurance is, of course, giving us the run around.
: I fed him an hour ago, and instead of one scoop per 25mls, I halfed it.
: He eats 1 can in 2 days.
: The G.I. Specialist said they put in a claim to the insurance company to pay for it, and that it was refused and that it is on appeal.
: I called the insurance company, they never heard of the claim.
: The insurance company says the pediatrician has to order it, the pediatrician says the G.I. sepcialist does.
: All I know, is that I just want to place my baby back into the incubator at the NICU.
: He was safe in the incubator.
: They could feed him, and the insurance paid for it then.
: I just want to feed my baby, but
: What do you do when the money runs out?
: I am scared.
: We have four cans now. It will be gone by Sunday.
: Why do they do this to us, when they know without it they will die, or at least suffer?
: He was 3 pounds when he was born.
: He is now 11 pounds, at 3 months 3 weeks.
: What do I do next Sunday when it runs out?
: Apeals don't feed he baby?
: Just asking incase some one ca

I Just found this posting, I am so sorry about your situation, please tell me how you rectified it.
The suggestion to contact the case worker at the insurance company was a definite plus.
Also the manufacturer of neocate as all drug pharmaceutical firms have a special needs allowances available, you would have to have an MD confirmation document and search the manufactures web pages for such.
Also contact the social worker at the NICU where your babies were hopsitalized for some help, you may already be acquainted with her or him. Please do not halve the babies formula it will be half the calories and also be more water, this changes the chemical
makeup of the formula to the point it changes the osmolarity and it will pull vitamins and nutrients from your babies metabolism possibly causing diarrhea and nutritional loss. I only wish I seen this posting sooner.
