: : : Hi, my name is Lauren and i am 10 years old. I am 126.5 ponds and 5 - feet. I am overweight and eat tons of sugar and carbs like 2 cans of soda a day, icecream,
: : : candy, pasta and butter and tons of juice. I never exercise i just sit in front of the tube and computer most of the time. My Grandpa on my Mom's side is a diabetic. I heard i will get diabetes type 2. I carry a
: : : lot of extra blubber on my stomach. I am have anxiety and am under tons of stress, can that cause it? My other Grandpa had a heart attack from high cholestrol and had heart problems is fine now at 66 with meds and a healthy diet. I am always tired and thirsty with shortnessof breath and i can't run for a long time because i can't catch my breath and get tired easy.
: : : How long does diabetes take to develop? Am i at risk? Please respond i am worrying myself sick! I would really appreciate it!
: : : Thankyou,
: : : Lauren (:
: : : P.S. Please answer my questions when you respond!

: : Dear Lauren:

: : Yes, you do have the risk factors for developing Type II (Type 2) at your age. The fact that you are thirsty and tired all of the time are two symptoms of diabetes although your being unable to run for any distance could be that you are out of shape from lack of exercise.

: : At this point, the best thing I could recommend is to have yourself checked out by your family doctor, and have a fasting blood glucose (sugar) test after at least 8 hours of fasting (minimum of 8 hours with eating anything except for drinking water).

: : This way you will know what your current situation is.
