: Could anyone tell me what these symptoms could mean. Could it be hypoglycaemia? What other possible explanations are there?

: I need to eat every couple of hours. I find it hard to understand how people can do things like miss breakfast or go for 4 hours without food. 3 hours would be my upper limit.

: Hunger comes upon me suddenly, and it more often than not accompanied by shakiness. Just today, at lunchtime, it had been 2.5 hours since having two slices of toast, and I was feeling shaky, exhausted, anxious and felt as if I could easily faint if I didn't have some food very quickly.

: After eating sugary foods, I feel tired and often fall asleep.

Hi Anne. Yes those are syptoms of hypoglysemia. I once had a friend that without food for more than 4 hrs. would get dizzy, tunnel vision, shaky and fall right over on the floor. Damndest thing you ever saw, it came on him very quickly. He would keep cheese crackers and little snacks with him all the time. Now that I look back on it I consider him lucky. I live on a strict diet and take meds just to keep my glucose levels down in a safe range. He still eats anything he wants anytime he wants and about as much as he wants.
If you want to be sure have it checked with a glucose tolerance test, but it sounds like your using more glucose than you can produce for some reason. Usually there`s an underlying cause for hypoglycemia. His was an enzyme deficiency and an underactive liver (low glucose manufacturing and storage ability). Too much Insulin in your system gives the same result. Bye, Jack
