I'm sorry to say but there is really no way to lose weight without losing some muscle. The best that you can do is minimize the amount of muscle you lose. The best way is to decrease your calorie intake slightly or increase your cardio work and begin/continue with a weight lifting program. A good place to start is to consume 10-11 calories per pound of body weight. A safe weight lose that minimizes muscle lose is 1 to 2 pounds a week. Anything more than that, you risk losing muscle(unless you are on steroids).
: : I was wondering what steps a person can take in losing weight to lose the weight in pure fat,
: : rather than a combination of fat AND muscle. How can I lose weight without losing muscle? Also, is
: : stretched skin from being previously fat impossible to get rid of? Or will absence of fat tighten it up
: : as much as desired? Thanks.

: Cut way back on the carbohydrates that you eat and your body will have to use fat for fuel. Eat plenty of protein so that your body doesn't have to eat its own muscle for survival. And don't worry so much about your fat intake as long as you really limit the carbs (sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potato, fruit, etc.). None starchy vegetables are also good for you, since they provide vitamins and minerals, but so does meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, and other low carb foods. Alan S.
