: : My son, now age ll, underwent tonsilectomy, adnoidectomy, and a new set of tubes in June 99. The surgery was horrible, the followup and recovery were even worse. I vowed to myself, that if he continued in his usual trend of colds and URI's during this past fall and winter, I would never forgive myself for putting my innocent child through this kind of torture. Well, I'm still waiting for the first cold. It is now, 3/20/00. I would say that the torture was worth the effort. As far as dehydration after surgery, just continue trying liquids that he likes over and over again.
: : : I am a Kindergarten teacher and a student with DS just had a tonsilectomy. I'm wondering if anyone has been through this with a similar child. Any advice? The doctors have told her mother that her recovery may be longer because of the threat of dehydration. Any advice emailed to me privately would be appreciated. Thanks!!

: Why was your sons's tonsilectomy, adnoidectomy surgery so terrible? My 6 yr old is getting his out next week. He also has congenital heart disease so I am concerned about recovery? How long was your child in pain? How long did it take for him to drink fluids again?

My name is Michael.I'm 8.I had my tonsils/adenoids out 5 days ago.He may be in pain for a few days then get a little better then in a few more days he'll feel a little more better. What I did was take Tylenol when it takes affect you can talk and do more better. But when it wears off just don't talk don't do anything and sleep. The older age you are the worse it will be.The ears and throat will realy hurt too.
