: My son is 13 now and I have troble getting school to educate him.I know as a mother he is can learn more then just selfhelp skills.Sometimes I feel like they just want to babysit.

Beth,

Legally your son is entitled to so much more than self-help skills from school...Are you in public schools? Have you contacted your local Arc for information about having an advocate attend the IEP meetings with you? I wish I had more advice than this, but my child is only 16 months old...haven't had to deal with much regarding IEP's and the like. I do know that you can specify his goals on the IEP, and if you don't think that they are setting high enough goals for him, you can fight for more than they are initially willing to give. Remember, if you ain't makin' waves, you ain't kickin' hard enough!
