My 37 yr. old brother has been residing in Pa. for approx. 20 yrs. No one in the family lives near him anymore and since we've all relocated to Indiana would like him to live near us. The agency he's under the care of in Pa. does not notify us of any changes that occur in his care and we usually find things out by accident. The quarterly reports they send us contain erroneous information about his living and work arrangements. To be aware of what's going on in his care our family has decided to move him to Indiana. The only problem is he's been around the same people for so long we're afraid that he won't be happy, and we do want him to be happy. Has anyone had any experience of moving an adult and what problems may arise from it, understanding that each individual is unique. I guess the only thing we can do is try it and see how it works out. He would live with me at first until he could be placed in a group home, which is also another problem. I'm on-call five days out of the week (Mon thru Fri) and would need someone to be with him if and when I'm called away. My community doesn't have any adult day-care program for mentally handicapped adults. Does anyone have any suggestions of who I may contact for assistance in my home. As I'm a newcomer to caring for someone with DS, any and all help would truly be appreciated. I live in South Bend, Ind. God bless.
