It was a shock to my husband and I when our daughter was born and diagnosed w/downs.we were only 23 and 21 yrs old and had never thought about something like this happening. No matter what we NEVER considered adoption. She was our child and we could never live with ourselves if we did that.I am so glad she was given to us.She is now 21 months old and doing great.walking talking you name it shes doing it.I don't mean to seem like I don't understand why you would think of adoption but I have a hard time thinking that information on ds is so distorted that you would think that your daughter would not have a totally normal life but it can be.There is no reason she couldn't do everything a child without downs could do my abigail is the easiest child to look after you wouldn't believe how easy life is with her.
You would be so shocked at what I have seen and heard of parents doing with there downs child from institutionalizing to adoption.I can't speak for them but I am not religous and had a few nights where I cried and asked why this would happen to our daughter I still cry sometimes.I couldn't love anyone more than abigail she is the light of my life. This has made my marriage stronger. she is daddys little girl and I don't see it making yours weaker unless you let it.The people that happens to are the ones who can't accept it and let it ruin there marriage.learn about ds before making a choice. They are the most loving people in the world. You will also never have a more well behaved baby. I know its hard but don't do something you'll regret. Its like the doctors said to me "if she had to have something be thankful its ds and not something else"I now know thats true.good luck and if you need someone to talk to I would be glad to talk to you. email me . we all need support and I do know how hard it is: [email protected]
