Lee, Congratulations on your expectancy! Our Christopher was born with down syndrome jsut 19 months ago. He is the fourth of four boys. Come December 22, he will be a big brother to a new baby brother! 5 boys! Christopher is abxolutely the joy of everyone's lives. What's amazing, too, is the way people respond to him. They smile and fuss over him--I loveit, you know. We did not know of his condition until he was born, so I cannot relate knowing your childs diagnosis before birth. Surely, you have had a Level II ultrasound, which should pick up any heart, neck, or brain abnormailities. Each baby, although he/she may have similar looking faces, is very different. My Christopher was born with several other medical conditions, other ds friends of ours have no other conditions. We do not know why some babies have more problems than others. We have been through a great ordeal, but you couldn't tell it by looking at him today! He is all smiles, is starting to sign some words, and is working on his very first steps!! Get involved with a local DS Association--it will be your lifeline of support!! Get as many early intervention services as you can. Read! Read! Read! Christopher is very bright. His brothers adore him. His development is right on target, except he masters most skills a little bit later than other children--but he does them!! Please email me. I'd love to talk about my favorite subject!! Good Luck and God bless you and your new baby. You'll fall in love with him/her!!!
