: My wife and I recently were told that our newborn has down sydrome. This news reached us after months of agonizing pregnancy, including hospitalization, trips across our state and other life crises. We are now told that he also has heart lesions and other cardiovascular problems. My wife and I are incredibly loving, caring individuals with limited means, both financially and emotionally now. We only want to do what is right for our son and have talked to adoption agencies who inform us that there are people who specifically want special-needs children. They can give him what I fear we cannot. My question is how do we learn to cope with the greif of this situation. We NEED to know if there are other people out there who have faced similar crossroads and have made similar decisions. We love our child with all that we are. But all that we are is becoming less and less every agonizing day of our lives. Please someone help us.
Hi has anyone sent you a reply? My husband and I have an adopted son with downs. He is an incredible treasure. Jimmy was not born with heart problems but had many other needs. He had to have a colostomy because of hirschprungs disease. He had apnea and asthma, reflux, pyloric stenosis and crossed eyes. he was drug affected. now he is a healthy nearly 3 year old. all the other problems are gone only the downs remains and we think it should be called ups. Jimmy is so sweet, Mischevious, cute, friendly, kind etc. we all love him so much that i just got on line to look for another downs baby to adopt. However, I want to encourage you to keep your son if you possibly can. There are financial resources out there. if you will email me directly i will tell you about some of them.
may God bless you I saw your pain in your letter. I wish that i could express to you how much I care.
