hi, i was just wondering something.. is 10 mg's of retalin normal to help decrease symptoms of add??

my doctor put me on a week of 10mgs (2x 10mg's a day) and i havent noticed that much of a difference.
to people who take retalin, how high are your doses. did you start out on 10mg's also?

Dosage is very different for everyone. Talk to your doctor and let him know what's going on. Usually the ADDers that Ritalin doesn't work on have better success with Adderall.
You have to start on a low dose and work your way up as instructed by your doctor. There are some docs who prescribe high doses (20+ mgs) straight away but most people end up with bad reactions and side effects that way.

Most instructions start on 5mg twice a day, then go up to 10mg, then to 15mg (every few days) and so on until there is a result, although if 20 - 30 mg do not show any effect at all, it is commonly accepted that higher doses won't help either.

If Ritalin does not work after this trial, Dexedrine or Adderall is usually tried, then moving on to non-stimulants like Strattera or antidepressants.

In 80% of people who genuinely have ADHD however, one or the other of the stimulants (methylphenidate or amphetamine) will work.
