Heart Disorders board

Around July 4th I began feeling ill. I felt like I had the flu and felt generally achey and tired. I went to the doctor off and on for many weeks and they found nothing. I complained of palpitations so I was given EKG's almost everytime I went in. They have always come back normal. Finally, I began having chest pain in the center of my chest, in a very small area, that would last for a couple of seconds and go away. I even went to the ER once where they did a chest X-Ray and EKG and found nothing. I saw my doctor again a couple of weeks ago and he said my blood pressure was too high, 150/90. He put me on Altace and scheduled the Echo. I had the Echo done and it came back saying that my heart muscle was thickening. My doctor said it was only "mild" but this really scares me.

I am a 20 yr old male, non-smoker, slightly overweight. Cholesterol has been high in the past but I have it down to 190. I dont know the exact ratio just yet. I can still exercise pretty well. Ive been walking several miles each day and have no chest pain.

How do I stop this thickening of the heart muscle? My doctor had no explanation for the cause other than my high blood pressure. He says Ive had never had a heart attack but how can I be sure?

I am scheduled to have a stress test done next week. After that I am asking for a referral to a cardiologist. What other tests should I ask for?

How long have you been having Heart Palps do you feel ill after you have them?
It has been a few years since ive played sports but I did play on a tennis team for 4 years. I never felt sick when playing back then.

A month ago or so when the weather was hot, it was very hard for me to exercise outside or I would start to feel sick. On one occastion I was outside exercising in hot weather and I experienced one of the "spells" (lightheaded, feeling like I was going to pass out). I didnt pass out but came very close.

Now that it is cooler outside, I can exercise for long periods and I feel just fine.. maybe a little dizzy but nothing like back in the summer. I have walked 4 miles a couple of days this week and had no problems.

Something else that could be important. A few weeks ago I was at a restaurant and began to feel lightheaded and ready to pass out. I left very fast and returned home. I happened to check my blood pressure and it was normal but my pulse was like 51-53 bpm. I thought it was odd at the time but figured at least my heart wasnt working so hard so I must be fine. My pulse is normally 70-90bpm at rest. Today it's been around 95-105 at rest  My blood pressure is normal thanks to Altace but my pulse is high and I am having a few palpitations. I dont see why it's beating so fast when im not really doing much.
