Spondylilothesis is basically a stress fracture in one of the bones (vertebrae) that make up the spinal column. Mine affected the fifth lumbar vertebra in the lower back and is considered mild. It shifted out of place a little bit but hasn't moved since diagnosis. As far as I can tell, there is no nerve damage. Lots of people can have this condition and not notice because they don't have any obvious symptoms or pain. I found out about mine when we were trying to figure out why I was having so much hip pain. I had lower back pain, but was associating it with hip at the time.

When my back bothers me, its in the lower back and sometimes feels like a muscle strain. Sometimes, though I have spasms that stiffen the back and tighten the hamstring muscles. In my case, ice and aspirin or ibuprofen usually help.

My back bothers me now mostly when I walk long distances. Otherwise, its ok. Fixing the hip made a lot of pain go away.

Have your doctor's xrayed your hip? You may have cartilage loss and may be a candidate for hip replacement. You ought to check it out if you haven't done so yet.
