I have spastic colon and have had a couple incidents of rectal pain. Last night, at bedtime, all of a sudden I got pains way up high in the rectum. They were anoying and put a heating pad at my bottom to fall asleep. The next morning it was OK, but passed skinny stools. My stool size varies so they are not skinny all the time. I have had this happen a couple of times--always at night. I also have fibromyalgia so I'm thinking it maybe muscle spasms. Can a person get a painful spasm in the rectum??? If you have had this please post--it may ease my mind. I'm 52 and need to schedule my first colonoscopy--not looking forward to this because of the fibromyalgia. Also would Bentyl help to ease these kind of pains/spasms?
Thanks,
Tania
Tania,
Whereever you have muscles you can have spasms or cramps. Usually it indicates that you lack magnesium and calcium in your diet.

A very good anti-spasm/ cramping remady is Magnesia Phos--- a homeopathic remedy that you can buy from most health food stores. Just use it like it says on the container. My wife has been using it for at least 25 years for spasm around her hiatal hernia. I have used it alot for intestinal spasms/cramping.

It was the first remedy I bought when I first got involved with homeopathy. I used it for back pain caused by muscle spasms. It works very rapidly within 15 to 20 minutes and can be repeated. You will bless the day you started using it.

As my wife has been taken a Cal-Mag supplements she has had less need for the Homeopathic remedy.

I also suggest that you start taking a water soluble fiber supplement to bulk up your stool. The Equate brand from Wal Mart is good and less expensive. It'll make your stools larger and gentle w/o straining when you get the right dose. But, start off slow because it does digest & ferment causing gas. As your body gets use to it the gas will go away. Also, drink enough water with each dose since it does absorb fluid.
I have used Bentyl but sometimes it cause constipation.

God Bless---Harry
