Acne board

I'm a 21 years old female, and I had very mild acne when I was your daughter's age. A few years into college is when I had horrible acne. My mother was pretty supportive throughout, althought she never had acne herself. The best thing she did for me was send me to a dermatologist. I'm still in college, so her insurance picks up my bills. She never hesitates to pay for my prescriptions, which makes me feel like she cares enough to spend her own money on the cause.

The best thing you can do for your own daughter is to keep helping her find something that helps. Maybe her dermatologist has not been aggressive enough? My dermatologist is wonderful, and treats my acne as if it were something serious. And of course, to me it is serious. Just GOING there makes me feel like I'm understood, because I know she's treated MANY other people with the same problem. I'm using two prescriptions, Tazorac and Benzaclin, and they are helping my skin SO MUCH. Eating healthy is a big factor as well.

Don't worry about her anger towards you. Deep down she knows it's not your fault. She needs to blame SOMEONE for what's happening to her.
Tazorac works a lot like Retin-A, although I've never used Retin-A myself. A lot of people consider Tazorac to be a prescription from hell, although I think it's because they don't see it through. When I initially started using Tazorac, I had really bad acne. I mean HORRIBLE. My derm knew how upset I was, and said she would prescribe me something strong if I didn't mind the harshness. I didn't care at that point, all I wanted to do was get rid of the acne. I would have tolerated any amount of pain.

So anyway, the first few weeks of Tazorac were pretty bad. I had an intial break-out period, which is due to the fact that the medication gets deep into your pores and brings up whatever is down there. In addition to the many new pimples, my skin looked sunburned. My skin peeled for about two weeks, and then one day I noticed it just stopped. My skin had adjusted. However, I wasn't getting any NEW pimples. NONE. I also used Benzaclin to clean up the acne that was already there. I still use both prescriptions, and my skin looks NICE. I still have a few acne scars, and once in a while I get a pimple. People are very hesitant to use Tazorac, but when I was sick and tired of acne, I'd try ANYTHING. I'd have suffered ten times the symptoms for the results I have now.

I really wouldn't worry if you can't get a nice derm. They are few and far between, and are usually VERY busy. Do some research on your own, and next time you go, ask for a specific prescription. They usually won't deny.
