Acne board

I am so happy that something is finally working for my skin! I have always dealt with acne, and as a teenager I treated it with bc pill, antibiotics, and even accutane. I was told I would grow out of it. At age 25 I stopped taking all medication, and over the course of a year my face went downhill.

My face got really worse in January when I went on a version of the atkins diet (aggravaters being cheese, low-carb chocolate, and a cheap multi-vitamin). So in February I decided to go back to the dermatologist, only to find that she highly suggested I go back on antibiotics. I said "no way", took the prescription for differin and benzaclin and ran.

Since that appointment I made the following changes, and something is definitely working!

1. Using differin every night and spot treating with benzaclin in the am (Dr. told me to use benzaclin all over in the am, but I find it too drying).
2. Cleansing with Cytaphil cream in the am and bar soap at night (which is better at removing make-up).
3. Using aloe gel and vitamin E cream as a moisturizer after the topicals both morning and night (Fruit of the earth brand for both)
4. Changing my pillowcase more often and washing it without fabric softener.
5. Drinking water with fresh lemon juice squeezed into it each day.
6. Eating a natural diet consisting of lamb, fish, poultry, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables. This is very hard to do, but I have confirmed that certain foods will cause me to break out. (and note that the breakouts come 2-3 days later, not that same day or even the day after, which is why it can be hard to pinpoint what was causing it sometimes)
7. Stopped taking the cheap multi-vitamin and bought a hair vitamin which contained biotin and b5 along with other nutrients.
8. Right now I am doing an intestinal cleanse which is going well, although I must say that all these improvements did start before I began the cleanse.

I just wanted to share that with everyone because these boards have been soooo helpful to me. For the longest time I would only lurk and read, but I want to share what my experiences have been too, just in case it can help someone else. I couldn't tell you if my improvement is based on one or all of the factors I mentioned above, but I do know that diet plays a big part for me. Teenage acne is different from adult acne, and I was sooo tired of being on pills for my skin. Fortunately it looks like my natural approach is working!
