Back Problems board

Rhizotomy is the word you are looking for. It involves Facet Joint Denervation. They can burn or freeze the nerves but they will grow back over time.

Botox is an approved treatment for patients with cervical dystonia. Cervical dystonia is a chronic condition characterized by involuntary movements of the neck that are often painful. It's my understanding this is a relatively new modality for neck pain caused by nerve/muscle problems. I'd research it more if I were considering treatment. As it treats a source of pain other than Facet Joints.

If you have Rhizotomy and it is working then your pain is from the facet joints not the discs or other tissues. Facet Cartilage has simply worn down. I have read only a little about botox, but from what I have read it is not long term relief and as mentioned is for pain from a different source. I too have degenerative spinal disease and it's not pleasant. If there were a "fix" we would all love to know about it. I do not have muscle spasms so I don't think Botox would do much for me.

I can see no reason not to try the botox, make sure your doctor explains where he/she is injecting it and the desired effect. Then let us know how it works for you.
The injections, the Rizotomy have done nothing to help. The drugs have pretty much stopped working also, and I am tapering myself down off of them. (see addiction board) Since I do not see getting any pain meds anymore I have got to find something, I simply cannot live like this for the rest of my life. I have started taking Tramadol and it seems to be helping with the pain, and the W/D. I will post more about the botox when I get it.
