Cerebral Palsy board

Hi There,
Yes I got the same little story, only it was a trip to holland!! That story must circulate the globe, it is a good analogy of what happens when your child is diagnosed.
I am a mother of two. My oldest daughter is nearly 5, she was born premmie at 34 weeks with no long term problems.
My son was born premmie at 31 weeks, the docs picked up a grade one pvl but did not diagnose my son with cp till 18 months. He is now 3 1/2. He has spastic diplegia and can walk in a walker for very short distances, he still prefers to crawl as it is quicker. His speech is probably his strength, he can talk in short sentences and ask questions. He's doing really well in that dept. My sons muscle tone is overall low, very weak in the abs. But he has marked spasticity in the calves, feet, hamstrings, adductors and increasingly on his right arm. He gets botoxed every 6 months. I am doing some research on SDR but it is complicated to get it done here in Aus. We have to fly doctor from the states to do the procedure. Only a handful of people have had it done here. Not even sure if my son is a good candidate but it is something to check out.
Welcome to the boards, excuse the ramblings!!
Yes they definately do, there was a child I know at my sons SEDU that had it done a month ago at Royal Childrens in Brisbane. I am going up there on Friday and will be getting some contacts up there to make appts with as well as botox no 2. Let me know if you would like me to check out anything else for you.

Thanks KarimsMUM - will be so interesting to find out some info - can you possibly find out if they take NZ patients???!!! We are looking at moving to Aus anyway, but not sure of a standdown period and my son really needs this surgery within the next year anyway as I have heard criteria usually 4 to 7 years old with no fixed contractures (my son is 6). Please pass on anything you find out, that would be awesome
Thanks
