I was diagnosed w/RA when I was 31--I am almost 50 now. At the initial diagnosis they started me on the "big guns"--methotrexate, paquinal, NSAIDS, etc. I had to go through a lot of trial and error, as a lot of these drugs differ w/each patient. I too was very sore, esp. on my metatarsals and wrists. The difference between osteo and rheumatoid is that as the day wanes, so does the RA, unlike osteo--it gets worse as the day wanes. I now have a drug regimen: 5mg prednisone, Arava, Celebrex every day. Don't give up--and I believe there's many more drugs on the horizon with new trials coming up.
