Hey Avoca,

I use Cialis. It is about the same cost, but last for about three days. I typically cut it (20mg @$12) into three and take a third a day. Sometimes, I will take a half, depending on how hard I want it and how bad she wants it. LOL

But, the fact that it lasts up to three days should give you some "economy of scale".

You other guys, BE ENCOURAGED. I am four years post op. The first year I didn't have much luck, and it was slow from there on. My doctor said I would continue to experience improvements up to four years. He was right! I usually wear a cock ring (erection ring) to assist.

I'm a little confused about the Cialis. My husband had a open abdominal radical prostatectomy one month ago. According to the literature on the free sample packet, it states Cialis is only effective for 'up to' 36 hours. Where is everyone else getting this information that Cialis lasts 3 days/72 hours??
Hey I tried those shots. Taken six shots with no real luck. Doctor gave me a stronger dose. I don't like sticking myself, scared to scar damage. So I have not gotten the script filled yet. Its depressing to me sometimes when I think I what I have to go through to have sex.

Have been taking cialis and viagra. Had a 70% erection one day after working out at the gym when I got home in the shower. It was scary and pleasing to see myself close to the way I used to be.

Hi Laura,

I know the literature says 36 hours. It does stay in the system longer than that however. I usually take it at night and have good results the next few days. It does taper off, but works more than 36 hours.

How is hubby doing? Is the doctor suggesting a viagra routine to facilitate nerve recovery? What about shots for erections? Both are typically suggested to keep the muscles from atrophy and keep blood flowing.

Thanks for asking. He's doing well. Yes the doc has hubby using the Cialis for increased blow flow to the penis to prevent atrophy of the muscle. He's been able to obtain errections adequate enough for penetration and has experienced orgasms eventually with each attempt during intercourse. Things just take quite a while to get firm enough. I guess he's one of the lucky ones but I really think it is mainly because he is only 40 years old and things were working well prior to surgery and the surgeon was able to successfully spare the nerve bundles on both sides.

We tried to see what happens without taking the Cialis and he was successful several days after the last dose of Cialis. But more than a week after the Cialis, errections weren't adequate enough. So I guess you guys are correct in stating that Cialis works longer than 36 hours.

He has had one complication of his open abdominal prostatectomy. A few days after his staples were removed, his incision opened up about one inch and alot of old blood tinged fluid began seeping out of the wound. He developed a 'seroma' under the incision. This is a pocket of fluid that forms near the incision. We found out that it was a good thing that the incision opened to release the fluid because otherwise it would have remained trapped inside and gotten horribly infected.

Now he's been having to do special 'wet-to-dry' dressing changes twice a day. He takes a saline dampened sponge and firmly packs the wound with it and puts a dry dressing over the top of that. This facilitates debriedment of old dead tissue and the promotes granulation of new tissue growth to fill in the open wound.
