Sexual Health - Men board

Background: 47 years old, 6' tall, 150 lbs, quit tobacco 1 year ago (was up to almost 2 packs of cigs and 2 cans of snuff per week), quit alcohol 20 years ago, do not have a history of cardiovascular problems or diabetes, I take no prescription meds or rec. drugs, I exercise regularly. I began noticing a loss in sex drive and erection strength almost 10 years ago, just before I started dating my wife (poor dear doesn't know what she missed!). Sex drive and erections gradually diminished. By 3 years ago couldn't get fully hard even by myself in private, but could still orgasm and ejaculate. Waiting a week between tries produced a 'soft-on' at best.

I knew something was bad wrong and wanted to find and address the problem, not just the symptom. I decided to first try a holistic approach instead of erection meds and supplements like Viagra, Cialis, Enzyte, etc. Over the last 2 years I tried a variety of herb-based detox programs with little improvement in ED situation. I experienced the best overall health improvement with a one week, liquids only fast, however it made only slight, but noticeable improvement in ED.

Last 6 months I finally resorted to herb-based enhancement supplements. Only one of these produced significant results. It's an occasional use product that basically works like Viagra, but it's still just treating the symptom. I've since tried another problem oriented approach and the results so far are promising.

In web and book research I noticed a few mentions of ED caused by fungus, specifically Candida. A few months ago I started web-searching Candida and found that it infects internal organs and often presents itself externally as toenail fungus, which I've had for (coincidentally) about ten years. The common medical treatment for systemic fungus, especially toenail fungus, is an oral medicine that causes liver damage - so nix that idea. I discovered a holistic program that is gentler on the body, but requires a strict diet and taking herbs for a few months. Part of this program calls for concentrated acidophillus. (there's not enough in yogurt). To test the waters I went to an organic food supermarket and found a product called 'all flora' which has acidophillus plus other beneficial biota. It's a powder that you mix in water. I began taking it as directed every night sometime between dinner and bedtime.

Results: After about 2 weeks of this flora powder I was able, with modest effort, to stimulate and maintian a full erection at bedtime. I also began having nighttime erections so intense as to wake me up in the middle of the night. Once I had to sneak to the bathroom to relieve myself because I couldn't get back to sleep. 4 weeks along now my sex drive has increased some and I'm still able to achieve full erection to orgasm by self-stimulation at least once and sometimes twice per 24 hours. (I haven't "tried it out" with my wife yet because I'm still skeptical.) I'm cautiously hopeful, but even if these results are only temporary, I now enjoy the added benefit of very regular and loose bowel movements.

So now on the hypothesis that a systemic fungus (maybe Candida?) has caused my ED, I've started a full herbs and diet based anti-fungal program. Nothing to lose - if this doesn't permanently deal with the ED hopefully I'll get rid of the toenail fungus and perhaps eradicate the fungus from whatever organs have been infected.

I should add that in addition to the biotic flora supplement I reduced processed sugar (soft drinks, ice cream, candy, etc.) and fast/junk food under the assumption that sugar feeds the fungus. Also the flora product I chose is kept refrigerated in the health food store. I think if it gets warm the various bacteria strains start to die. I mentioned acidophillus above, but I don't know if it alone would have produced these results.

I hope someone finds this helpful. I'll be glad to answer any questions and to keep you posted on my progress.
