i feel the same way. every week or so i go to the dollar store and buy a thing of tums and two things of ranitidine or cimetidine... i'd go to a gastro if i were you, tho i've had no luck with any doctors. i hate em all....

and no, i don't think 20mg prilosec = 40mg nexium. that's crazy talk. my dr even told me nexium has a higher, purer concentration of the active ingredient and so is stronger than any other ppi at an equal dosage.

Everything I have read indicates that the main advantage of Nexium is it stays in your system longer (17 hours on average vs 12 for other PPIs). The main advantage of Prilosec OTC over Nexium is it is much cheaper which is important for those who don't have insurance. Those of us who do have insurance sometimes find the insurance company a littlle stingy with the PPIs (two Nexium a day can be tough to get approved). Though my prescribed med is Previcid, I keep Prilosec OTC around as a backup supply. I keep some in the office, some at home and some in the car.
