Allergies board

Nasonex is an inhaled corticosteroid or anti-inflammatory. Inflammation is a major component of the allergic process. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) work best when taken every day b/c they can take up to a week to take full effect. One does not want to take an oral steroid on a regular basis because of all the nasty side effects.

for most people with mild-moderate allergies, clarinex or allegra or zyrtec in combination with nasonex is very effective.
The immune response is a funny thing and what works well on some people works not so well for others. Unlike other medicines, when it comes to finding an effective anti-histamene for you, it's a matter of trial and error. At least that's how my doctor put it. If you visit your doctor, they'll likely give you samples of all the leading anti-histamenes (Zyrtec, Allegra, Clarinex, Claritin) and let you determine which gives you the best results.
