Discussions that mention clindamycin

Acne board

At age 22, after having perfect skin with only occasional spots in high school, I had moderate acne - 20+ active blemishes at any given time. I was depressed, and cried almost every day. I spent 30-45 minutes putting makeup on to cover it all up.

I saw two different dermatologists. One prescribed 10% BP and clindamycin. Didn't work. The other prescribed Differin. That didn't work. I used to whole tube and quit - it was getting worse.

I bought Paula Begoun's book, Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me. I read it, was excited for a few weeks when I found all the good ideas she had. I think I overdid it with the Milk of Magnesia masks. My skin is pretty oily, so I thought it would help. After doing this for about 10 weeks, along with a gentle liquid cleanser and a 5% BP, I realized this wasn't helping either. So I decided to give up the Milk of Magnesia.

I started using plain 'ole Purpose bar soap a.m./p.m., and used Neutrogena On-The-Spot 2.5% BP p.m. only. About 2-3 times a week, I used plain white sugar with water to exfoliate. After about 3 months of this, and NO PICKING, my acne is now mild, with only about 3-8 active blemishes at any given time, usually on the lower side...

I'm still searching for that perfect skin I once had, however, I am happy that my skin is finally under control as opposed to out-of-control.
I think we all probably use too many products and end up over-doing it.
I really think being GENTLE is 90% of the answer!!!!
