If you are not allergic to penicillin, 2 grams of Amoxicillin, Cephalexin, or Cephradine may be taken one hour before the procedure.

If you cannot take oral medications and are not allergic to penicillin, 2 grams of Ampicillin or 1 gram of Cefazolin may be administered by injection one hour before the procedure.

The exception to the 2-gram dose is for those allergic to penicillin who may take 600 milligrams of Clindamycin either orally by injection one hour before the procedure.
