Quote from christie080500:I noticed the thread concerning hives was kind of old, so I am trying to start a new one. I have had chronic hives and angioedema for a year now and am allergic to NOTHING! I spent 3 months going back and forth with the allergy scratch tests, etc. I am also having trouble trying to conceive, so maybe it is hormonal. I am taking Clomid (an antiestrogen) for fertility purposes, so maybe it will help. I doubt it though, since on the fifth day of taking the pills my lips swelled up to 5x their natural size. (That really hinders the baby making process, who wants to kiss that, you know?) I am so freaking frustrated that no DR. can say anything but "Sometimes this happens and can last for years, and no one knows why" Well Screw you too! Can't someone figure out why?
Anyway, here is a place to vent for all of us!
First let me say that I know exactly what you are going through, I have had chronic hives for four years now and still counting. I have seen GP's and specialists, I have had just about every test you can have except for the skin test because my skin and muscle tissue are extremely sensitive to pressure which means any kind of pressure ather than normal causes me to swell where ever I am touched so doing the skin test would give a false positive.
Like you a cause of why this is happining to me has not been found. I, like you though, do believe there is a cause and believe it or not there are some doctors that believe that as well. The problem is finding it.
There are so many possibilities. The enemy we are fighting is not one we can see or touch, we are at war with the microscopic world. In your case it could be hormones, mabe once you get them back in balance you might improve.
I really hope so for your sake.
Belive me I know the feeling of helplessness, the mental anxiety, the depression, The social isolation, and the feeling of plain hopelessness that this condition brings. What really makes things worse is how people including doctors aren't really supportive and not very simpathetic, that in itself brings on a lot of what I said earlier.
I have done a lot of research on Urticaria over the past four years and have gained a great deal of knowledge about it. I started a thread called possible useful information concerning Urticaria, I posted a lot of information on the subject of hives, it is kinda old so you will have to look for it.
By the way I was diognosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria.
I wish I could have been more help, but if you would like I will share my research knowledge with you if you ask.
