Discussions that mention clonidine

High & Low Blood Pressure board

Fam,

For the sake of staying on topic, I'm responding to your post here.[QUOTE=famnd;3197961]Hi Beth,

Were you taking other meds besides HCTZ? My HCTZ pkg. insert does list your symptoms as adverse effects. There are two anemia's also. Were you drinking enough fluid then? Dehydration & electrolyte depletion could have caused your symptoms too.

I learned with the beta blockers, Clonidine etc. to do any bath/shower activities before taking meds. My husband had to pull me out of the tub a few times which is hard since I was pretty much dead weight especially with Clonidine. I still have trouble from time to time-last week I felt very weak after a bath & took my b/p (120/48). And this was in the afternoon-many hrs since I took my meds. Now if I could stay in the tub all day I wouldn't have to take meds I guess :).

I tried caffeine again. This time my b/p flew up to 194/61 & I couldn't get to sleep. But boy did I feel good with all that caffeine ( from one coke). Guess I won't go back on the caffeine wagon any time soon.

I'm going to try to cut my HCTZ dose to 12.5mg-less potential side effects especially longterm.

One thing I learned from Dr. D in the newspaper is that most of us on diuretics get cloudy urine because the urates that are excreted in the urine. I kept thinking I must have a UTI but I didn't have it everyday. Knowledge really helps decrease worry.

I just prepared 20 pkg of mushrooms for the freezer last night. They were so delicious & cheap!!! I can't stomach canned mushrooms.

Next week is my Dr's appointment so I have a lot of homework to do. That report about beta blockers is going to take some studying. Hopefully my Dr. has read it. I may need to go to the University for some answers.

How is the job hunting? Have you been able to exercise at all? The humidity really is killing me when I'm outside. I just exercised inside today & felt quilty because I didn't take my dog for a walk. My husband took took her for a short walk & she ran in our huge fenced in yard. Oh, & we have gotten some tomatoes that were good. I'm going to a luncheon in a few wks to hear someone who has written a book on gardening. Better get to bed. Fam

I was only on the hct...I suspect electrolyte imbalance but I may have been malnurished at that time also...I was on that medication for over a year but was unable to make or prepare meals (or pop tv dinners into the micro) and ate many bread and butter sandwiches and nothing else. I'm sure I was not drinking enough fluid as it is difficult for me to stay hydrated under normal conditons. And the hct just wrung me dry (I had little or no control over my bladder, something that is embarassing to admit and not pleasant to remember). Changing clothes 4 times a day was not uncommon. Don't remember anything about cloudy urine...but then my memory was compromised. And yes, knowledge makes a BIG difference.

Boy, can I identify with that tub thing. I never sat down because I didn't think I'd ever get up again. You're fortunate to have someone like your husband (as not all husbands would be so obliging), grin.

Interesting about the caffeine...but I'm confused . Are you going to drink coke for the energy;)? or are you going to forego coke for the sake of your bp?

How do you freeze mushrooms? I love em but they often go to waste in my fridge..I'm not fond of the canned, either...too slimy.

The heat has killed me too...it affects my moods, energy levels, sleep, and diet. Nothing shoots up my weight like the quart of ice cream I consumed in one day because my brain was fried and to hot to think. Must find an alternative way of cooling my body on the inside. Exercise has been completely out...I was 4 pounds heavier yesterday due to the hot weather than I am today (and that is why I think I'd benefit from an occasional diuretic). And of course, with the humidity the way it is, breathing is difficult at best. I know that's because of water retention and fluid in the lungs, but I don't quite understand the "why" part.

No, I haven't looked for work and things are really tight right now. BUT, I've finally balanced 18 months of bank statements which I needed to do before preparing my taxes. Got the taxes into the cpa on Thurs and have some details to look for but then I'm done. Famnd, I can't tell you what a relief it is just to complete that...when I say I'm three years behind, I MEAN I'm three years behind in life. It's the little things...garbage cans that need to be scrubbed out, light bulbs that need to be replaced, windows that need to be fixed...etc. I haven't had a kitchen light fixture in my home for over 2 years. This month I am going to put one up so I can see in my kitchen when it is dark out (I've had to wait until daylight to do my dishes, groan).

Going back to work is scarry. I need to contact my last (temporary) employer (the one who fired me for errors addressing 25 envelopes), explain the circumstances of my situation, and hope that she would be willing to be a reference for me. She did tell the agency that they liked me very much but they needed someone who was accurate. Oh Famnd, I got straight A's in graduate school and I couln't even address envelopes....

Ah, the garden...yes, I've got tomatoes, many of which have reseeded from prior years. Unfortunately, the ones I've got the most of are the cherry and yellow pear so they go to waste instead of being canned. Would love to attend that luncheon with you as gardening and horticulture are my passions.

Good luck with your doctor's appt. Will you be seeing your bp specialist? Hope all goes well.

Bethsheba

PS Just got a package of supplies for my cpap...new humidfier, new mask, new hose (kitties can really do a number on those hoses), and filters. They've made some changes to the mask strap and to the humidifier. Much quieter than before...but then again, maybe it's because the new stuff doesn't leak:D
