Discussions that mention coumadin

Anemia board

Hi,

I have not been feeling well for a while now. Suffer from TIAs as well. Had a mild stoke last summer which damaged my eyesight in both eyes.

Both carotid arteries are full of plaques.

Am on coumadin for a year now and doctor says that the coumadin is not responsible for the new problems (below) I am having.

Had 5 spine surgeries between summer 96 and summer 2000.

About 6 weeks ago started to get bruise marks on my arms and chest and now are spreading.

Last week started to get blotches on my face as well.

Also my elbows and knees and ankle bones are purple colored.

Also started with red dots which look like blood dots about a week ago. Looks like freckles in size.

Also running a fever every few days for over a month too.

Also very tired and weak lately.

Blood tests 2 weeks ago were:

wbc 11000
Neutrophils 76%
Lymphocytes 16%

rbc 4.9

My doc gave me a referral to the er but did not go yet as I wanted to see if the marks would go away but is worse.

I was told that maybe there is borderline anemia and maybe RA and maybe something a lot worse.

Does anyone know what the test results I wrote above mean?

Should I worry and is there really reason to go to er?

Thanks!

Your lab tests as you printed them indicate an infection of some kind. The blood dots you are referring to are called Petechae. They are tiny capillaries bleeding into the skin. This sometimes happens when the platelets are low or not functioning right. You did not include this information so there is no way for me to know that. Intermitten fever is also an indication of infection, however some ordinary drugs such as steroids or other treatments can cause low grade fevers. The only thing you can really do is follow up on your doctor's referral to see what is going on before anything gets worse. Take care.
