Drug companies are required I believe to list drug side effects espeially those reported by patients. They also have to update the onfo from time to time. You'll see a date at the end of the package insert. It is sometimes hard to get these package inserts because many pharmacies throw them out feeling they are too difficult for the average patient to understand. The handouts
given out about the drugs from the pharmacies often doesn't include all the infromation about side effects. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REPORT SIDE EFFECTS FROM DRUGS YOU TAKE TO THE FDA. I usually call the drug manufacturer as well if I can find the phone no. (PHARMACIES HAVE THESE NUMBERS). Drug companies are required to report side effects to the FDA. When the drugs go to market many more side effects come to light because most of the drug trials are relatively small when you consider the target population.
So you might see just a few people got joint pain in a drug trial but in the general population it may be a lot more. This is what happened to me with Cozaar. The data looked good with few side effects. There was no way of knowing that joint issues would translate into a "drug induced Lupus reaction). My drug thought she had found the perfect drug for me. One reason the doctors do not ask about side effects is because they then have to report them (and this cuts into their income because they can't see paying patients if they are doing paperwork)..I believe this is one reason (of many)that so many patients and doctors are oblivious to the side effects we are experiencing...and the side effects go underreported!!

[QUOTE] The handouts given out about the drugs from the pharmacies often doesn't include all the information about side effects. Yes, but my drug sheets did point this out.

Bless you for this information!!! I knew that doctors were supposed to report side effects but after yesterday's appt with my doctor, I knew that he was not going to report mine. He basically blew off my side effects because none of his other patients had problems....arghhhh, . Did he ask his other patients??? He never asked me. And if he had, my brain was so fogged over, I wouldn't have been able to tell him. That's why I was telling him yesterday. Will be doing some doctor shopping by the way, :) . This weekend, I'll be gathering my data and contacting the pharmaceutical companies. Fam, thank you so much for this---I should have known,. but I will do something.

Again, I am so very sorry you had to experience this. But I thank you for sharing and for helping others.
