High & Low Blood Pressure board

Here are my Stat's:

2001 (before HBP in 03')

Chol (301), HDL (53), LDL (220), Trig (140), LDL/HDL 4.1

2007 (296) (40) (192) (318)

Glucose (97)
(98)

Uric Acid (3.6)

Note: my trig's were up to 318 in 2000 too. I'm on 25mg of HCTZ & 1800mg of Labetalol (apha/beta blocker) plus aspirin (2 1/2 tabs (325mg)

I walk 1 hr a day'moderate pace because of my damaged knees (Cozaar (b/p med damaged the knees), plus I swim 1 1/4 hr a day plus do water exercises, & ride my exercise bike for 1/2hr a day.

I eat a vegetarian (plus eggs & cheese) diet & try to keep fat @ 30 gms & protein at about 43gms. Total calories @ 1200 calories. I'm only 5'3" & medium boned plus I'm classified as hypothyroid at moment with interval periods of extra thyroid hormone as my thyroid gland dies & releases extra hormone. I eat ww bread, at least 5 veggies & 2 fruits a day. 3-4 servings of the milk group. I measure & weigh everything. I've had to watch my weight since I was 14 yrs & was fairly sucessful until 5 yrs ago when I developed thyroiditis. My weight then was 142 & is now 169. I hope to lose 49 lbs. I'm in my 60's. Fam

Famnd,

Your "lifestyle" is better than mine was and probably better than now. Are you taking a statin or other lipid influencing medication?

At 1200 calories per day, you are quite a bit below what's needed to maintain what you consider your optimum weight. I have read that there can be quite a significant variance in metabolic rates which in turn influences the calories required to maintain 1lb of body weight.

Are elevated triglycerides thyroid related?
