Drug Interactions / Side Effects board

I have not read that the effects can be permenant. I would imagine this would be something from long term use, high dosages and possibly underlying problems that predispose one to them.

I've learned to not read all the gorey details about drugs otherwise I would scare myself off from using any of them. Compazine may sound awful on paper but a lot of people get good relief. My Mom, who usually has ALL the side effects of a drug, handles Compazine just fine. Me I won't touch the stuff. On the other hand if nothing else is working and I'm puking my guts out I would probably give it another try. :D

Do you know what it is that tends to make you pukey after surgery? When I met with my anesthesiologist for my gallbladder surgery I told him that I could care less about pain management, I just did NOT want to wake up sick. He told me that he would use the newer drugs for sedation and make sure I wouldn't be ill and I wasn't. I'm sure they gave me something for nausea before I even came out of the sedation but whatever his combo was I felt fine.

A lot of people get sick from Demerol which is a pretty common pain med given after surgery. A friend of mine had her gallbladder out and she was throwing up for nearly 12 hours from the shot of Demerol they gave her. Me, I have no problem with the stuff and I have a pretty delicate stomach.

I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone is different and just because you had a bad reaction to phenergan you won't necessarily have it with Compazine or any of the other drugs. The most important thing to do is let your doctors, ALL of them know about your reaction last time and hope that they'll do their job to make you as comfortable as possible.

I hope your surgery isn't anything too serious and that you'll be in and out of the hospital in no time.

Sincerely,
Antoinette
