Discussions that mention diazepam

Beachgirl, dear, you are SO normal! Some people on here have been given a little anti-anxiety medication to help them over the last few weeks before surgery, and maybe for a while afterwards. Some people don't like to take anything, but if you're open to that, talk to your doctor. He's probably seen it many times before and can prescribe something to just take the edge off. My husband has a stressful job and our doctor gives him diazepam. It's great for him. It relaxes him and helps him get a good sleep. He just takes it as needed, sometimes one or two a day, sometimes none. I like that it's not a medication that needs to stay in your system to work, and it's mild. He's never had any side effects from it, and he has had side effects from almost everything else.

For me, prayer got me through. I also tried to keep myself as busy as possible the last week. The less time I had to sit and think about it, the better off I was.

You know what to expect, and that certainly helps. I'm sure you'll be very prepared for post surgery. You know it'll hurt like crazy at first, but keep up the pain meds and you'll be okay. Take it a day at a time.

I wish I could be there and give you a hug. I know exactly what you're going through. YOU WILL BE FINE!!! Just keep hanging in there! It will be over before you know it, and you'll be tapping away on the healthboards from your sofa as you recover. I will be praying for you!
