Back Problems board

Hi Mar:

It's hard to give someone suggestions w/o knowing specifically what the problem is but maybe this will help:

First: You mention that you have seen a surgeon. Did he mention anything that suggests what your problem might be? What has your family dr suggested?

Using that info:

I would do a search on a search engine using keywords that relate to your situation. Probably beginning with spine. You should find websites that will allow you to search within their sites using terms that apply to your problems. You might use words like: disk herniation, lumbar, thorasic, or cervical, depending on the location on your spine, back or neck pain, spinal fusion, or spinal surgery.

There should be descriptions of different types of back problems. They should list symptoms and you can read and see if anything is similar to your situation.

Use this information to become knowledgable about what options there may be. Tell your dr exactly what you are feeling and for how long. Then discuss with the surgeon what his opinion is and what he suggests your options are. If he orders tests, ask him what they will reveal. If he is a dr that is caring and concerned for your well being he will share with you any and all info you will need to know and ask you questions that will help get you better.

Don't be intimidated, they are human beings. Write down questions and bring them with you. If you can bring someone with you. Write down answers when he shares with you. You can always call his office back and ask again.

Do the search or if you share some of your history here, we might be able to tell you about our "story". Hope this helps....Jo
