Hi Pearljam:

I was bumped up to 50's in November after 1 month of the 25. At first it was ok, but lately I am only getting relief the first day and then it's downhill from there. By the third day I am in quite a lot of pain. I will see my pain doc Jan 10th and ask him for an increase. I don't want to be on this much medication, but I am sick and tired of being in pain bad enough to keep me in bed all the time. I may ask to go to two days instead of changing every three. I don't think I will have a problem, as he is very caring and nothing else seems to work.

I will ask about the neurotin though, might be worth a try. I will do anything to get some relief. This has been almost two yrs (besides the 20 yrs of basic back problems) and I'm getting pretty much at my wits end. I have been told there aren't any other options for me other than management, so it's not like I didn't do everything else before getting to this place.

I would kindly and gently pursue the increase explaining that you would like to try it for awhile. If he feels this med is not working for you, what else does he suggest you take or do? Ask him? Be open to what he suggests, but be your own advocate also. You are the patient. If he gets bent out of shape, I would find another. Just my opinion, but it's my life and I'm the one suffering. Hope you get relief soon. Jo H.
