Whoa River Rat! Did you write that post, or did I? :) Your pain, and the way it came on sounds exactly like my situation, right down to my duties at work, and my inability to work or sleep! Lets see, it took me 6 doctors,$15,000 and 9 months before I found a dr. who was really willing to help me. You need a Xray, MRI, CT scan, and possibly that horrible discogram, atleast I had to have all that before I got releif. I know it can be very frustrating, so dont give up if the doc doesnt meet your expectations when you see him. They all seem to start slow, ignoring your suffering and milking the insurance companies as long as they can. You might catch on faster than I did though as I let my first 5 dr.'s tip toe around my pain and make light of it before I found one that really helped me. I went from OTC meds, Ibuprophen 800(sp?), darvocet, skelaxin, lorocet, Norco, percocet, duragesic, and finnaly Oxycontin before I found a med and a doc that would control my pain and give me my life back. I went from staying in bed all day for 9 months to working 70+ hrs a week again. No I havent had any surgery to correct my DDD or torn and buldging discs, I cant afford the recovery time, but my pain is non-exsistant 2/3 of the day, and almost tolerable for the other 8hrs. now, and has been for almost a month since my doc put me on OxyC 20mg. 2x per day. I am sure that if he would rx the med for 3x per day instead of the 2x, I would have no pain at all. Right now I am going thru a series of ESI's (steriod injections) and my doc says that they will build up over time and I wont need more meds. We will see. I have my 2nd one with him in another week, but my 1st one with him, and the 2 others I had from a different doc did nothing at all to provide me with releif. Some people say they work for them, maybe my doc is right, it will build up over time. Enough of my rambleing, I hope you have good results with your visit and get the releif that you deserve, so you can get your life back. Good luck.

1998-Major rear-end colision
1998-mid2000-Chiropractic care
2000-mid2002-Pain level increased drasticly. No insurance, took a combo of every OTC painreleiver imaginable.
2002-MRI/ L3/L4 and L4/L5 annular bulging; DDD L4-5 and L5-S1
2003 February- Orthopeadic Spinal Surgeon said not a candidate for surgery,Percocet 5/325 every 6 hrs.
2003 June-1 month at PM clinic, Percocet 7.5/325 every 4 hrs.
08JULY2003-Had Discogram, comfirmed ********ming from L4-L5 disc.Followup confirms tear at L4/L5, pushing on a nerve.
JULY2003-Duragesic patch, had allergic reaction, switched to Norco. Norco provides no releif. Dr. wants me to have IDET. NOPE!!
14AUG2003- New PM Dr. switched me to Oxycontin, 20mg/2x a day.
I need 8hr doseing as I get 100% releif for 7-8hrs then pain back to 7+.
EMG says severe nerve irritation in lower back. Shows legs ok.
06SEPT03-Severe butt/leg/foot pain, suddenly while driveing, feels like constant electrial shock, I am worried about symptom change.
3ESI's scheduled begining 12SEPT03
Surgery is NOT an option at this time, do to meds working great, long recovery time, possible failure and need to have surgery again.
