Pain Management board

my doctor was called away for some emergency and doctors filling in for him will not prescribe narcotic medication. i have been to three er's, called numerous pain management facilities and no help. er gave me two duragesic patches and told me to follow up with my doctor who so far has been gone for three weeks and still no news when he will return. pain management clinics tell me it will be a week or longer before they can see me and then cannot prescribe medication on first visit. i have post polio neuropathy, chronic back pain from auto accident, osteo arthritis and curvature of the spine, i feel like i am dying from the pain. they did offer to stick me in the mental ward to help with pain until whenever my doctor returns. i have two 80 mg oxys left because when i called the thurs. before my meds ran out on mon. for an appt. they informed me he was out. got a list from pharmacy for past six months to show physician filling in i only go to one doctor, one pharmacy and same time each month. he write ne a script instead for my blood pressure patch. so i sit and cry and hurt. i'm a heart patient which they all are aware of and i have been told i cannot just stop taking my medication yet no one will help me.
well just an update been on phone all day. called numerous pain management centers they all asked for my records to be faxed to them (so i called regular doctors office and gave them list of doctors to fax records to God only knows when they will do this) then the doctors have to review my records and decide if they want to take me on as a patient or not. then if they decide to take me i have minimum so far of one month before i can be seen. isn't that wonderful. so when my husband comes home back to the er. will go everyday if i have to but worse thing is my duragesic patches have been the only thing that has kept me from going into full blown wds. and drs. office said paint management has to prescribe that medication. pain management said no because they do not do narcotics have to see morphine pump specialist who says they have to review records. i honestly don't know what is going to happen to me. i can't take this much longer. thank you all for your support and advise.
God, that has to be every one of us' worst nightmare. I know its mine. Help me out with this.

Im confused as to why your doc wont be writing any more scripts for narcotics when he returns. Is this just for YOU or for all patients? Also isnt it bit weird that the doc "leaves" for three weeks or more and then when he returns isnt writing any more scripts for narcotics?
The reason Im asking this is because if he isnt going to write for you anymore then its going to be hard to get someone else to if its in your records.

I cant see how this could have happened. Usually something has to happen to make a doc go off of the deep end like that.
My doc's son was killed last week and in the middle of all of that horrible mayhem he sent me my meds to where I was out of state. Im one of the lucky ones.

BUT, back to helping you...I agree what Ex said about mentioning the abondonment issue. Have you said anything to the office that dropped you about that? seems they would get you some help with one of their docs if they thought there may be some backlash.

Has your hubby called your old doctors office? I know that the one time I ever took my hubby with me to my appt, and I needed my dose upped, my doc didnt even bat an eye since hubby was there. I just think it helps to have someone in your corner that is seeing you suffer so.
Im so glad you at least have the patches. How many more duragesic do you have? Have you any more oxy left? Can you break it up?

Im sorry I didnt respond eariler I just returned form being away for a week. Im hoping and praying that you get some help today. I wish there was something I could do for you. Post if you feel like it, we're all here pulling for you.

p.s. Pepper, can you post where your doc is? Maybe that could help. Are we allowed to do that??

He will not be prescriving pain meds to anyone. his office said today they have 90 patients in my situation. and if i want a copy of my records they said it was 60 cents per sheet and 9 years of pain management thats alot of money. but they will fax info. the one doctor who said for me to go to the paint management for a morphine inplant said he could not read his writing and they sent a x-ray of my foot (can't explain that one) i always trusted this doctor but i have to agree something is definately going on with his practice i had been asking him to lower my meds back in jan. and he was iffy about it but went along with it. then all of a sudden two months ago he told me we needed to get my rxs lower because he may retire and i would have a hard time getting someone to fill my rxs. which we didn't understand because he had just moved into temporary offices because he was taking over the entire top left side of the building and it is under construction. then suddenly talking about retiring and then leaves on family emergency would be back first week of july and now last week of july and will not be writing anymore pain rxs. i am going to take everyones advice and write an official complaint when i am able to. hopefully will get a couple hours sleep tonight and have better luck tomorrow. ps hubby always takes me, i'm in a wheelchair and don't drive. and thank God he does with all the bs these drs are throwing at me. thank you.
You poor thing. I would think that since there are 90 other pts in the same boat, there would HAVE to be SOME way to get you some help!! I mean, its not just you, its happening to a ton of them! With that many ppl thrown in the lurch, the ER has got to be seeing some of them as well.
You have a sweet hubby, as do I, and dont worry...they love us and want to help.
Strength in numbers, and like you stated they have others going thru this, so Im wondering what they are all doing?

I know I asked about your hubby, but can he call the office and demand to speak to someone who can at LEAST direct you to some help asap? Id tell them to take the money they want for the faxes and shove it where, you know where, but you cant. You have to try to be nice so you can even get your stuff.

Something is up big time with this guy, and if so, it could help you get some help, id think. Im sure youve tried every avenue, but with every bit more of info you give, it helps to see the situation better, and opens up more doors so that you can have some leverage to maybe get in somewhere.
I know there will be others who may have some good ideas. Im going to wallk my dogs, I just returned from a long trip, and maybe Ill have some more thoughts.

Is there any way you can get a letter from the office of the deadbeat doc, so that you can take it with you when you go to the ER, and other appts? Even to be able to Fax it to prospecting PM docs or ANY doc? That would help a ton Id think. They have to have other patients who are as angry and desperate as you.

P.S. Grandma...You have probably said, but do you have any meds left or are you just limpoing thru with the patches? Also are they duragesic or the Blood pressure patches? Sorry if youve said. Im still trying to get my bearings.

I have 2 duragesic left until Thurs. I will let them go bone dry and then change them. My hubby took Thurs. off he called the dr's office and boy did they start faxing out my files to each and every PM clinic and dr,. we could find made alot of appts. but at least i will be seen this coming up thurs. we are blessed to have our hubbys with us.
Hi, I just experienced 4 days of withdrawal from the Duragesic Patch 50 at the end of April. My husband and I went on vacation in Gatlinburg, TN for a week. I don't know what I was thinking (well I am on the Durgesic Patch afterall) but I put my patch rx in the checked bag. I thought they might steal it from me or something if they checked my carry on. I have heard of this happening. It is so widely wanted by addicts. Anyway, they lost my luggage. I called my Doc in Okla. and they said they couldn't help me because it has to be a hand delivered rx! He told me to go to the ER or another Doc close by. If anyone is familiar with Gatlinburg, the closest ER is about 3 hours away. (I would have been out of network also and would have had to full cost for Dr. or ER. We didn't have this kind of money. We were just trying to get away for a week from all the madness we had been through the last 3 years. It was a free vacation given to us. Supposed to be a stress free vacation!) Maybe it was only 40-50 miles to get to a hospital which could help me but it was through the mountains. I decided to just stick it out until I got home. BIG MISTAKE! I shivered almost constantly, froze, didn't sleep for 4 days. I'm sure there are worse withdrawals from other meds. but this was pretty severe to me. I didn't have any stomach trouble, THANK GOD, but I just jumped every minute or two if I tried to sleep. AND the PAIN was back. This was the worst. I have so many reasons for my pain, and they all came back.

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy! I will pray you get help before you run out. I did make it for about 16 hours over the 72 hr. mark on my last patch. It was a little bad but not as bad as the rest of the 4 days. We finally got our bags back to us the day before we left! We were there 7 days. I wish you all the best and hope you get help soon!!!
