What condition are they treating? Kidney disease, Heart failure, liver problems diabetes insipidus??? Has the water retention pretty much disappeared after draining off those 13 pounds (almost 2 GALLONS of water!!!!!)

Since these potent diuretics can cause all kinds of problems with electrolytes your doctor should check your sodium, potassium, chloride, uric acid (yep, the drug can cause gout) and maybe magnesium.

This drug sounds a lot like chlorthalidone. I like diuretics but I tried 2 days of chlorthalidone, another very potent thiazide, and I drained off so much water I thought it was impossible to HAVE so much in there.:D It also made me feel like the grim reaper was at my door. TOO STRONG for me.
An alternative to consider for yourself is daily Lasix (furosemide)...strong but not horrible.
