Allergies board

I have experienced this myself. It went on for almost half a year. I would put tons of vaseline and lip balm on, but nothing helped. My lips were dry and bloody and peeled every day. I was starting to look like I had some kind of mouth disease and it made me so self concious.

I was also getting eczema on my eyes and neck. I went to the dermatologist about the eczema and realized this thing with my lips was an allergic reaction too. I am allergic to several chemicals they put in cosmetics-lip balm/lipstick, including fragrance (the flavoring). The dermatologist gave me a prescription for Protopic ointment to treat the eczema. I put it on my lips and within days they were better. Now I use it maybe once or twice a week. I also use a lip balm that contains hydrocortisone. It is called Dr. Dan's Cortibalm and I got it at the dermatologist's office.

I had to throw out all of my lipstick, except for the Clinique brand (Almay is supposedly good too but I have yet to try it). I guess the allergy to lipstick can be either to the dye or to the fragrance (almost all of it has fragrance). I can use clinique with no problems. The other thing I was allergic to was my toothpaste/mouth wash. I am allergic to cobalt, which is sometimes used for blue dye. The very best toothpaste it regular Colgate, nothing else.

So, I am happy to report that I have soft, smooth lips now, and I owe it all to avoiding allergens and using the previously mentioned products. I am sorry for the length of this post, but I am hoping this info can help you or someone else. I know this is terribly frustrating. A dermatologist can give you a skin test to determine any allergies, but perhaps avoiding certain products will alleviate your problem. Good luck!
