Discussions that mention ibuprofen

Arthritis board

Hello-I'm a 36 year old mom to a delightful 8 month old. I am here because I have been referred to a rheumatologist by my GP and I have questions that can not wiat a month.

About two weeks ago, I started having some pain in my feet. I had bought new running shoes so I thought that was the deal. A few days later my knees started swelling and hurting (some are red). A few days later my wrists started hurting. Finally my fingers got into the act. In the morning I find it hard to move. I literally stumble about until my feet and knees loosen up. My hands are also bad in the morning. I am having trouble opening jars of baby food (my dd is not amused) and holding onto things. This morning I dropped a one gallon jug of bleach because it was too heavy and I lost my grip. I am exhausted. I am normally very active (a runner) so this is just throwing me for a loop.

My GP ordered blood work earlier this week and called me with the results which were inconclusinve. My white blood count was low, my ANA was positive but low (160?), RF was negative, and sed rate was normal. I absolutely do not understand the sed rate because I can see the imflammation.

My questions to you:

1. What does this sound like to you? I'm confused because my GP said it could be nothing. It feels like something.
2. Will this keep getting worse?
3. What can I take other than ibuprofen? My GP told me 800 mg evry 8 hours, but it isn't helping.
4. What I earth do I tell my boss? I am not very productive, but with a dx I don't know what to say.
5. I have a history of Hashimotos, but no longer have a thyroid (cancer) and the antithyroid antibodies are gone. Does this history have any bearing on what is happening now?
6. What is with the negative sed rate? I can see the imflammation.

Many, many TIA!
Hello.
Boy I know how hard it can be not knowing what is going on. I'm newly dxed with RA about 2 months ago. Motrin never worked for me,,,,I found Ultracet to work the best,,,takes the edge off without making me feel goofie. Nothing I've found really takes the pain away.

I woke up one morning with my wrists,,,ankles,,,neck,,,knuckles so sore all I could do was prop them up and cry! Thus started this journey. I'll try to answer you questions the best I can,,,please run anything by your doctor though.

1. What does this sound like to you? I'm confused because my GP said it could be nothing. It feels like something.
I really would not want to guess or worry you. Google Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms and see what you think.
2. Will this keep getting worse?
I have not felt as bad as the first flare I have,,,when I start approaching that pain level I go to my Rheumy,,,she gives me a Medrol Pack,,,a steriod,,,I start to feel relief after the first dose! If this works for you,,,there is definate inflamation.
3. What can I take other than ibuprofen? My GP told me 800 mg evry 8 hours, but it isn't helping.
For me,,,Ultracet is the best,,,however,,,everyone likes different meds.
4. What I earth do I tell my boss? I am not very productive, but with a dx I don't know what to say.
Tell them they are running a battery of tests,,,trying to pinpoint what is going on.
5. I have a history of Hashimotos, but no longer have a thyroid (cancer) and the antithyroid antibodies are gone. Does this history have any bearing on what is happening now?
I'm not really sure.
6. What is with the negative sed rate? I can see the imflammation.
From what I've learned,,,people can have completely normal labs and have RA. I think it takes awhile for some of the levels to build up in the blood. If you have a negative RF factor,,,they refer to it as seronegative I believe.

I sure hope this helps a little. Like I said,,,run all these questions by your doctor. When I go in I prepare a sheet with three heading,,,Symptoms sense last visit,,,ex swelling,,,pain in what joints,,,etc.,,,,Medications,,,then Things That Are Hard To Do,,,such as holding a blowdryer,,,brushing my teeth,,,etc.
She loves the list,,,then I keep them in a file at home. Please forgive any typo's,,,my hands and fingers hurt!! LOL
Sure hope you get to feeling better and start to get some answers.
What you have to know is there are many things that can mimic RA,,,so it might not be that at all. I know there are viruses that can mimic it almost to the T. Hang in there,,,feel better.
