Discussions that mention ibuprofen

Back Problems board

The mail order drug system is working pretty well for me. I bucked it for a while, but we finally tried it for just one medication, then quickly got on the bandwagon. The insurance company makes it worth our while. We get three months worth for two months co-pay. Since our co-pay is kinda high, it's good for us. Even my son's insulin comes through the mail. It has to be refrigerated, but I figured I'd try it and see how they handle it. They overnighted it with freezer packs wrapped in bubble wrap. In the middle of summer, going from Texas to Virginia, it was still cold when I got it. So far, so good!

Marchinski, my personal feeling on suggesting meds to your PM is don't do it. It's better to discuss your pain, tell him the Vicodin doesn't always cover it, and let him make the suggestion. Otherwise, a little red flag goes up in their minds, wondering if you're becoming a drug seeker. You have to not take offense at that. It's their job to keep you properly medicated, as much as possible, without over medicating or getting drugs onto the street. It's a fine line we chronics have to walk. By the way, I had the same problem. My surgeon is still prescribing my Vicodin, which I've been on for over a year. He has always given me anything I wanted and has been so supportive, but he balked at giving me anything for breakthrough pain. He feels it's not a good idea to mix meds like that. He told me to up my dosage of Vicodin and to add Ibuprofen on my worse days.

The meds are a pain in the neck, but I'm grateful to have them, no matter where they have to come from. Randy, I hope it all works out for you. The other posters gave you some good advice. There is such good support and encouragement on the back board! Let us know how it goes.

Take care,
Emily
