Back Problems board

OMG, I'm so sorry that happened to you! I can't even imagine falling off flat on your back. I can imagine the pain you must be in. And many times you hurt bad right away, then feel a bit better....but, the problem is some time may pass and then you get even more severe pain. This can happen to people in auto accidents as well. Even with disc herniations, you might not feel it right away. So it's probably very important that you follow up with the Orthopedist. Do you know if that doc you were referred to is a spine specialist?

At least you didn't break any bones, but you might have done something to some muscles, or even discs in your spine. You won't know for sure until you're thoroughly examined. I think right now you should probably lie down or if you have a recliner, that might help. Try not to bend or twist at all either.
You might want to try icing the painful areas (if you don't have cold packs or ice packs, you can even use bags of frozen vegetables). Usually ice is applied first, then after a few days, you can try using moist heat over the areas. The ice might help lessen any inflammation, then the heat might help if you have any muscle spasms. Did the ER give you any pain relievers at all? If not, try taking Ibuprofen or Aleve, if you can.

Again I urge you to make that appointment, it's always better to do so sooner than later. And I hope it all works out and there is no damage anywhere.
