High Cholesterol board

Bev,

I know that I am only on the second day of my drug regimen and what I am about to report is totally anecdotal, but I feel better today than I have in months. Now this may be because of the faith I have in the cardiologist I have chosen to treat me or perhaps the drugs are beginning to work, I don't know. However, I will continue with the regimen and report my findings in my "My Experience With Cardiologists" thread on the Heart Disorders message board.

For your information as a pharmacist and medical professional, here is the treatment program I am on:

1. Metoprolol to start in week one at 50mg bid, increasing in week three to 75mg bid.

2. Moduretic (amiloride/hydrochlorothiazide 5/50 to start in week one at 1 tablet q am, increasing to 2 tablets q am in week 5.

3. Starting Fosinopril 10mg at bedtime in week seven and increasing it to 15mg hs in week nine and 20 mg hs in week 11.

4. Finally, depending on my blood pressure readings, adding isordil three times a day at an incremental rate of 1, 1 1/2, and 2 tablets every eight hours or 1/2, 1, and 1 1/2 tablets q8h depending upon the BP.

Thanks for your contribution. It is most enlightening.

I am so glad you're feeling better. It could be that just knowing you're being taken care of is helping already. It sounds like a complicated regimen you will be following - I think it's a good sign that your doctor is suggesting basing your medication on your blood pressure readings.

Best wishes with your treatment!
